Composting Guide

Composting Guide
Composting is an easy and natural way to make use of household organic waste by transforming it into valuable natural fertiliser for our gardens and plants. Through this process, we significantly reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and actively contribute to environmental protection and the creation of a cleaner and more sustainable municipality.
In the Composting Guide, you will find useful information about:
- The materials that can and cannot be placed in the compost bin.
- The correct layering of organic materials.
- The importance of aeration and moisture for successful compost production.
- Useful tips for faster and more effective decomposition.
- The correct way to use the compost produced.
In addition, the Municipality of Amathounta provides residents with the option to submit an Application for Composting Implementation Inspection for those who systematically apply composting practices. Following an on-site inspection by the Health Services Department, and provided that composting is being carried out and compost has been produced, the applicable reduction in waste collection fees may be approved. The Municipality reserves the right to conduct subsequent inspections to confirm the continuation of composting practices.
Important information: The final date for submitting the application is 30 November of each year.
Through simple daily habits, we can all reduce organic waste, produce natural fertiliser without chemicals, and contribute to a greener future for our municipality.
Less waste, a cleaner municipality, a greener future!
